Miami University (Oxford, OH) Senior Capstone Experience
As an undergraduate at Miami University's College of Creative Arts, students who are earning their BFA undergo a capstone where they create work to be exhibited for a group show. The students range from various concentrations that include: ceramics, sculpture, print-making, metals and painting. I was blessed to be with such a talented group of peers who I was able to represent with. We came up with the show title, The Getaways because we all enjoyed the quote from Andy Warhol, "Art is anything you can get a way with." Below are images from my show, my studio space and the works I did during that time.

According to a 2013 Huffington Post article, humans can have up to 35 to 48 thoughts per minute. This means, individuals average 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day. As someone who struggles with ADHD, depression and anxiety, I am not embarrassed how this has caused challenges, recognizing the ways in which my emotions shape the person I can be at times. As you view my "blobular," shapes, each one symbolizes a different thought of feeling. Being inspired by the process of "Zentangle," I enjoy making patterns because they can be a methodical process; but also, their appearance evokes a type of structure and order that represents how ideally, I would love to be able to control everything and everyone around me. I am very aware that this is a false reality, however, I attempt to dictate the mind of the viewer in the ways I want them to experience my work. When viewing my work, my intent is for the viewer to release endorphins as they take in the saturated, vibrant colors or feel overly stimulated when they view the compositions that are either presented in scattered, floating or an all-over pattern. There are times when my emotions get the best of me and explaining to someone why I feel a certain way can be tiresome. Through my work, I express how I want to feel, how I am feeling, and attempt to make you feel the way way I do. If I have successfully got you to feel and think the way I do, then maybe... just maybe... I do have control of your mind.
